Midland Elementary School "Soft Opening"

Friday, September 1st, Midland Elementary will be open, from 4 PM to 6 PM, for the community members to come in and see the new school prior to the student's first attendance day on the 5th.

Board of Education Vacancy

The Midland Community Unit School District #7 Board of Education is accepting applications from school district residents who are interested in applying for a vacancy on the board. Board members will make an appointment to fill the vacancy by majority vote. The appointee will serve in the position until April 2019, when the seat will be up for election.
To be eligible for consideration, a person must:
-- be at least 18 years old;
-- be a U.S. citizen;
-- be a registered voter; and
-- be a District #7 resident at least one year prior to appointment.

Any eligible resident within the School District who is interested in being considered for the position must submit a letter of interest. A resume is also desired. All information must be received no later than 2:00 PM on September 7, 2017.

State Funding of Schools Crisis

Dear Parents and Community Members,

As we approach the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, I wanted to welcome you and your students to the Midland School District. The administration, faculty and staff are excited to begin a new school year. We have some new faculty and a new building this school year. Despite the late start to the year, our students are set to receive a wonderful experience.

Despite the level of excitement, I want to share some of my thoughts about the school funding crisis in Illinois. I am sure you have heard details on the news. Political gridlock holds our state, our schools and ultimately our children hostage. I have avoided sharing many details about the funding issue, because I was relatively sure the state government would find a solution. Afterall, it’s about funding students. How could they not?

Well, as of Thursday, August 10th, the state has failed to live up to its obligation. The political battle has cost all public schools and children their General State Aid payments (GSA). The Midland School District relies on these payments to provide services to the children. ... Please read the whole letter, attached to this post.

Please register your Elementary and Middle School students at Midland Middle School. Please register your High School students at Midland High School.
