Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
I hope that you had a wonderful relaxing summer. Spending time with your family enjoying summer activities is so important. We are looking forward to an outstanding school year, and hope you and your students are as well. We have been hard at work over the summer preparing for a new school year. A few maintenance issues have been implemented. The Middle School and High School replaced some sidewalks. In addition, the Middle School upgraded their security camera system. The High School is painting hallways. The custodians have been very busy preparing the buildings for the start of school.
As the school year starts, we are optimistic that Springfield’s budgetary issues will improve. Last year, the state was much better, than the last five-years, about allocating money owed to school districts on time. It was not perfect, but much better. We hope that continues this year. With that said, the District is focused on continuously improving the academic performance of our students as well as our never ending commitment to a safe learning environment. A number of teachers spent time over the summer taking advantage of various professional learning opportunities. In addition to enhancing our surveillance cameras at the Middle School, safety procedures were reviewed, and changes were implemented.
We are looking forward to seeing our students on Monday, August 20th, at the open house at the Middle School, from 4:00-5:30 and Welcome Back evening at the Elementary School, from 5:00-6:30. The first day of school is Wednesday, August 22nd, and we’re excited to begin the year.
Respectfully,
Bill Wrenn
