Mr. Gauwitz, Mr. Janssen, and Mrs. Padilla were recognized, at Wednesday night’s School Board meeting, for their dedication to the safety of students and staff members. All three principals attended a two-day A.L.I.C.E. training, to become Certified Trainers. A.L.I.C.E., an acronym for Alert-Lock down-Inform-Counter-Evacuate, is recognized by federal and state governments as the best option for an intruder crisis. A.L.I.C.E. is not designed to be sequential but rather to be utilized dynamically in each unique situation. A.L.I.C.E. training addresses each component in detail. The ALICE Training Institute provides comprehensive, hands-on instruction on these components as well as access to tools and resources to aid in implementing and maintaining A.L.I.C.E. procedures. All three principals will review, plan, and then train people within the schools to be prepared and empowered if a tragic event occurs.
